Happy Holidays Everyone! And also how is the BB Community nowadays? How did you first discover BB?

IAm_SJAXVIIIIAm_SJAXVIII Member Posts: 62 Recruit
Hello forums, I just wanted to first off say happy holidays and that I hope that you're all enjoying your breaks! I haven't really been online here in a long time, and to refresh all of your memories I am Sean #72.

I decided to look around the forums, because of nostalgia. I decided to go on the app "Kik" recently and I talked to some old friends that I met in BB community that I keep in touch with. On Kik, we talked about our origins and how we each discovered BB and it made me realize that without joining the BB community and without pressing that OF button, my life would be very different. I know it sounds corny and dramatic, but it's true, what if I didn't press that button... The BB Community would be different and honestly... My life would be very different. It's things like these that make me hold BB dear to me, and it's also what makes me want to stay in this community and keep in touch from time to time.

Now that I'm here, I'd like to know what's going on with current events:

1. How's the BB Community doing? Is it dead? Is it thriving and growing steadily?
2. How are the BB games going? Is there any new BB games that were made recently? Has BBG died? Or is BBG still living on with active clans still in the mix?
3. How is SkyVU doing? Are they still going well? Do they interact with the community here still?

Also, I'd like to talk about a topic that I'm sure you'll all enjoy! It is the topic that talks about our origins, how it all started. I enjoy listening to others talk about how they discovered BB, because I get to learn a lot about the person saying their story. I'm going to go ahead and write down my story, how everything all started for me.

If you don't want to read my story, you can go ahead stop reading here. I apologize for having so many topics on one thread, but I rarely go on here and it's nice to talk and visit once and a while (like visiting a family and old friends during the holidays to catch up). But yeah, I pray that you're all excelling in real life and that you're all working hard to achieve your goals! Happy holidays everyone once again, and I hope for the best for all of you.

My Story:

Alright so this all started off during my freshman year in my first high school. It was the 2nd semester and it was early 2012, the year when the "world was going to end", the iPhone 5 and the iPad 2 were the latest iDevices out, everyone was playing Temple Run, Skyrim & Black Ops 2 were a big things for video games, and when Linsanity was big in the NBA.

In my high school, the freshman were given brand new iPad 2s. My school district was taking a new step into technology and were testing out to see how efficient iPad 2's would be for education in schools. Luckily, the freshman in my high school were the test subjects :) . The upper classmen would despise us and mock us since we were all on our iPads alot. Obviously, we used iPads only for extracurricular stuff like games and social media rather than education (and why I personally believe that technology is ruining this new generation).

So, during the first few weeks of having iPads, the biggest trend that we had was that we played the game called "Draw Something", I'm sure that you're all familiar with this game, where you draw something and the people you play with guess what you just drew. The next game that everyone would play would be a shooter game. One day during my Spanish class, I was casually talking to some friends and I look over my shoulder and I see two of my friends playing a shooter game. I was interested and I went up to both of them and watched them play the game. The game was a third person shooter with 4v4 teams consisted of bears shooting each other. The game was called "Battle Bears Royale" and it looked great, so I decided to download it, but for some reason I didn't try it out during class (my Spanish teacher was out on paternal leave at the time, so we basically were able to do anything we wanted to do).

I had track practice that day, but either I skipped the practice or I didn't go to the gym after practice, either way, I remember skipping one of my routines and went straight home. I arrived home, back from another day at high school, ate dinner and took a shower. Finished my homework, and had some free time before going to sleep. I decided to go ahead and try out the game, and I became addicted. I thought that the characters, weapons, and special abilities were unique, nothing that I've really seen before. The implementation of powerups and shields were very unique as well, these items can turn the tide of a game.

I continued playing the game, and after a week after the BBR trend started, the trend died. The BBR trend was short lived, and a lot of us freshman already deleted the game and moved on to the next trend, which was Temple Run. However, I continued to play the game, I was still hooked. I wasn't alone, and I was aware that a few other guys still played the game. I remember the day when I learned that the trend died, I learned about the gas offers and I showed my friends about it. My friends all already stopped playing the game and called me a nerd (not in a bully way, but by a joking way).

Regardless to everyone not playing the game, I continued to play and with those gas cans that I got from gas offers, I went ahead and got the chainsaw for huggable. One of my first main setups that I had:

Huggable

So Fly
Tough Love
Chainsaw
*I forgot what special I used
Melee +2
Speed +2

Before I made the decision to press the OpenFeint button, I played BBR with the annoying bearzooka set and this huggable set for around a week and a half to two weeks. During this time period, I came up with my first BBG nickname. One day, during my football class (yes, there was actually a football class) I made a lucky catch, so one of coaches called me "Lucky". Now I don't know how I got the number "88" but I combined Lucky with 88, and my first nickname was "Lucky_88".

After a week or two, I started to believe that I was becoming a pretty good player, and I noticed that there was a green logo in the main menu. I decided to press the button, and see what content would be revealed. Honestly, pressing that button was like going into a whole new world. I first looked at the leaderboards, and saw names like Fluttershyisbestpony, TacticalWarrior, PlayerNegative8, OLIV3RPOW3R on there. Next, I went over to the forums section on OpenFeint and one name that stood out as [The-T] Smoking Weed, cool dude. After a few days of just lurking around, I stumbled upon a thread about a clan recruiting, that clan was: [LS] Last Stand, and after seeing that the leader's name was Apocabeartic I wanted to join. The person creating the thread was [LS] Patrius, I still remember that picture he had with the winter demo skin. If I remember correctly, I was barely unable or able to meet the requirements, but nonetheless I was able to join. At this time, I was only at the high level 10s or the low level 20s. Once I was accepted, Patrius messaged me and told me to join the Battle Bears Forums. So one day on April 2012, I decided to join the forums.

Before I joined the forums, I decided to check the forums out. I was in awe, because I spotted a lot people that were on the OpenFeint leaderboards. Names like Fluttershisbestpony, PlayerNegative8, TacticalWarrior, OLIV3RPOW3R, and all of these other people and all these clans. I thought that the people on the OpenFeint forums were pretty good, but the forums were full of players that were on a whole other level.

When I reached the [LS] Last Stand thread, it was pretty cool, because I learned that my leader Apocabeartic was regarded as a really great Huggable user & my clanmate CookEfrenzy (her name at the time) was a great sniper as well. After this, my BB "career" kicked off. I stuck around OF but started to stay more on the forums, and I got more closer to people like CookEfrenzy, Patrius, & PlayerNegative8.

After that? The rest is history.

    1. Like SkyVu, the community is declining but it's still not in the worst condition. We suffered a really bad blow last night
    2. The old story has been dead for years. BBG has less players. No new games. Just Battle Bears Overclock
    3. How is SkyVU isn't doing great, but they could be worse. They're having a lot of sketchy business practices

    Yeah.

-App Store names like "BBG FPS MOBA SHOOTER WAR ONLINE 4v4 TEAM BATTLE DEATHMATCH" to make players' searches bring BBG up.

-Overuse of older assets (this isn't a bad thing, but they take it to the extreme)

-Certain announcements from Ben about upcoming stuff have never come to reality (there was supposed to be a big forum update this month and yet we still have no word on it)

-Existent but unintentional scams (Charging the Huggable plush more expensive in one place than the other)

-Random intervals of lack of communication

-Mainly, just a giant feeling of insecurity

I honestly can't tell as I'm never too up to date, but the forums seem less active then I remember.

The games however have really loss their pizazz, BB had one of the most unique storylines, and a unquestionably well-made BBR, which was one of the most epic multiplayer games I've ever played as most multiplayer are fun and competitive but lacked the epic and adventurous feel BBR had. The new BB games I've seen has started becoming more like games CoD. I like games like that and all, but they don't follow the same precedence as the older games, which I found disappointing.

How SkyVu's doing, IDK, since I'm not up to date, but I really wish they still made games like the ones I played long ago.

My story is long, but not as interesting as the others, read if you have a long attention span:

So, I think I was around 11, I had a iPod I played a game called High Noon, which was a first-person shooter Multiplayer. At the time I used the username Pyntis for everything online. After playin High Noon for a few months, the Wi-Fi modem stopped working, so I couldn't go online for a few months. By the time we got new Wi-Fi, my mother had gotten me a iPhone 4s, which was a big deal since it was relatively new. Since High Noon didn't allow me to transfer accounts, I decided to look for a different game; new phone, new game, new username(decided to take on Kiro because I was a fan of the Sift Heads series). So after spending a few minutes scrolling in the "Top 25 games" section, I found a game with a logo that looked like a metallic bear. It got my eye so I downloaded it and tried it. The game mechanics were failure so I quickly got use the controls, and I feel in love with the game. I was surprisingly good at the game, but like most of the games; the more I played, the more experience I gained, but my skill started to down grade. I was using Oliver mainly and my fav set up was: ASR, TNT-Launcher, Boots, (don't remember melee or special) Health+2, and Ammo+2.

When I lost my skill, I was desperately looking for a new playstyle I can be somewhat good with and discovered that I was more of a fast paced person and did well with huggy. My main set up was: Headlights(I think that it's called), Tough Love, Boots, Speed +4(You can tell that I've been here for a while because stacking was allowed). Shortly afterwards I discovered @Caststarman and his youtube channel, and thus the forums. I joined a month later with the username Hli01(and I admit I did some shady stuff that account), and joined MC. After a few months of not communicating, ZX happened to be undermining MC and they easily convinced me that MC was dead and got me to follow them.

That's when I lost even more of my confidence in my BBR skills as I failed ZX and never got in. I was scared to go back to MC after I found out that it was plenty alive, and didn't feel comfortable going to any other clans for as while as the ones I join always end up dead. So I had this "time" where I kept trying to find a clan but couldn't, so I got some of my friends to play BBR and we made a clan together.(During this time I created the account you see me using now) They quickly lost interest so I had this period where I was constantly creating clans, and they kept dying, until my friend Rays created ZS. ZS last a pretty good while, but like my past clans, died as well( this was where I met one of my closer friends @SuperTed). I went on clanless for a while, until I finally found the gut to rejoin MaCh. Now here I am, I don't play BB anymore, but I come back once in a while because I have a few friends in MaCh.

Well, it all started on a vacation to Arizona back in 2009 a few months after BB:Z first came out, simply called "Battle Bears" at the time. I was in the car with my family on the way back from a night at a pizza restaurant, and as we were passing the beautiful nighttime scenery and the buildings with the pretty lights, my older brother started laughing, and for a good while.

After about two minutes in, I asked him what the big deal was. He handed me his phone, and there it was on the screen: The giant, capitalized letters spelling out "BATTLE BEARS", and in the background was a shadow of what looked to be a teddy bear holding a gun in the sunset. That was a bit confusing and certainly odd at first, and in my head, I questioned why my brother could've been laughing so hard at that simple screen, but then he told me to actually play it. I played the first level of the Story mode and on the screen was the same teddy bear holding the gun from before. He was a brown bear who was hiding behind sandbags for some unknown reason, everything about it just felt so weird... and then the pink bear appeared in the distance. It was walking towards the brown bear with open arms and saying "Hug Me", I thought it was a Care Bear at first. Curious to see what would happen, I pointed the Rifle at it and tapped the screen.

Its head popped off, a rainbow emitted from its guts and rainbow blood spewed all over the place before the body came crashing and burning to the ground. I now know why my older brother was laughing so hard. As soon as I saw this happen, I burst into hysterical laughter. There was just something so satisfying about finally being able to kill those colorful bears who did nothing but bring pain and suffering to my younger self. This was my payback, and it felt so good that I had to laugh. I felt like a monster killing my own kind. More of the pink bears started appearing and I didn't hesitate one bit and began shooting all of them down in the same fashion, and I was laughing throughout the whole thing. My twin brother was also there in the car with us, he watched as my older brother and I were shooting these pink bears and laughing so hard throughout. A few minutes afterwards, he asked the same question to me. I handed the phone to him and he started playing, and as soon as he shot the first pink bear down, he started laughing just as hard as we were.

I will never forget that car ride, and from that point forward, I quickly became attached to this "Battle Bears" thing.

I went to look it up online, I wanted to know how this game was born, who developed it, who the characters were, and how the story played out. The brown bear was named "Oliver", and the pink bears were called "Huggables". Oliver's mission was to escape the planet with the mystical treasures before the Huggables could, quite literally, hug him to death. That was an interesting story to me back in those days, and I caught on with it. I started following the Battle Bears Blog, and it wasn't too long until the game was updated and became the game we know today as "Battle Bears: Zombies", with new boss battles and more hilarious cutscenes. I will never forget the pain and suffering of waiting for its eventual prequel-sequel, "Battle Bears -1". I remember when the game was close to complete and I was on a vacation at my Grandmother's house, the blog updated and there was a drawing of Oliver fixing up an iPhone with text implying that the game was coming out soon! I was so excited, and later in that summer, the game finally came out and it quickly became my absolute favorite mobile-exclusive game that I've ever played. The gameplay was so much different than the first, you could actually move around, you could play as Riggs, the Boss Battles felt more like actual bosses, Huggables came in many different new flavors, the music absolutely rocked the house, the Storyline was expanded with elements such as the introductions of Wil, aBBi, the Ursa Major, and of course, this mysterious "Overclock" business that I still don't fully understand to this day until SkyVu explains it. It was so much that I ended up loving it way more than the first... if only my 10 or 11-year old self knew that we wouldn't get another game like it.

You know the rest of the story from here. BB Royale and Blast were announced, hype for BBR exploded within the fanbase, BB0: Wil's Finest Hour was announced, these very Forums were created and I joined as (my absolutely horrible past-self) @BATTLEBEARSFREAK101, BBR was released to overwhelming success for SkyVu, new games, Forum overhaul, blah blah blah, I ditched my old account, I rejoined the Forums as the account you see here, SkyVu started going downhill, BBF we don't talk about, BB0 was a failure since the employees behind the game vanished from the company, no new Storyline games since then, BBU had promise and I beta tested for it but it launched horribly, BB Titans announced out of nowhere, turned out to be BBUv2, we beta tested, renamed to BB Overclock, ANNND.... here we are today.

Today, I still see some sort of light of hope in the series, that maybe one day, SkyVu will finally earn enough money needed to create a new and polished Storyline game as well as support BBO in ways we can't even think are possible today. I still enjoy the series for what it is, and I play both BBG and BBO on an almost daily basis, while I've never ended my streak of being online daily on these very Forums. SkyVu as a company isn't doing as well as we once thought, as these other guys mentioned above, but I still hope that they'll get out of this deep, dark hole one day. I will never forget the memories that this series has brought me since the release of the very first game back in 2009, regardless of all of the flops, and I hope to see a Good Future for it.

Hoooo boy. I wouldn't have bumped into the BB franchise unless @Varganceze and @FallenAvenger introduced me to it.

I was in 5th grade at the time, sometime in in late 2011. They were like, "Karthik play this cool game called battle bears royale, it's awesome" or something like that. I was hooked instantly. The time when SkyVu wasn't sketchy at most and it pushed out good updates often. I loved the weapons, and I found the gameplay hilarious. So of course I went ahead and bought BB-.

It was great. I thought it was hilarious, and kept replaying the cutscenes (I watched the same cutscene montage video about 30 times(!) before I even bought it). I practically died when S.C.C censorship came up. Anyways, Varg and Avenger told me to join the forums. I was gonna actually, but when I saw it as a guest, I instantly didn't like it. I saw an argument, and since I was SUPER sensitive back then I was like NOPE.

Anyways, I was so hyped in the summer of 2012 I believe for BB0. I loved it. But... After than, me, Varg, and Avenger kinda drifted apart. I forgot about BBG until in 7th grade we got our iPads. I decided to get BBG, and I thought about joining the forums since I was already on other forums and not nearly as sensitive as before. And, I was accused of being an alt of Varg and Avenger, and got banned. That got sorted out fast, things happened, I met cool people, and yeah, a 11/12ths of year later, here I am.

Really i dont have a long story but my brother and I both got iPod 4gs and he got battle bears -1 and zombies which I eventually was introduced to I beat both games and loved to play the survival then I played some Bbg not being in the community at all till now. What kept me with the game is trying to find the unfinished story or waiting for it.

Lol I'll try to keep it short. I had recently graduated high school on May 2012 and my parents gifted me an Ipad 2 as a reward for graduating. I remember scrolling down the app store and finding this trippy/cool app called battle bears royale...and I remember the exact date I started playing...May 8th of 2012.

I played a lot during that summer but didn't join the community till I heard about Bearacks on August 2012, which is when I joined the website. I honestly was a very crappy player compared to the pros of that time and I was humiliated lol let's say I wasn't happy with that and started experimenting with a range of sets until I found a few and gained decent skill, I was finally able to compete againts players from ZX, EXT, etc.

It wasn't long until the spotlight was on me and I finally received my first clan invitation from LFDY , who was leader of SH at that time, later on the clan died and I formed my own with asian G and Battlecry, it did 't last long do I tried BX(which also died quick unfortunely) and that's when I met Sean #72 and joined ZX, which is the clan where I reached the pinnacle of my skill.

It changed quickly..I went from being called a trash soldier to being considered one of the best of all time, some even the absolute best, in company of players like Paws and tactical warrior.
