Hello forums, I just wanted to first off say happy holidays and that I hope that you're all enjoying your breaks! I haven't really been online here in a long time, and to refresh all of your memories I am Sean #72.
I decided to look around the forums, because of nostalgia. I decided to go on the app "Kik" recently and I talked to some old friends that I met in BB community that I keep in touch with. On Kik, we talked about our origins and how we each discovered BB and it made me realize that without joining the BB community and without pressing that OF button, my life would be very different. I know it sounds corny and dramatic, but it's true, what if I didn't press that button... The BB Community would be different and honestly... My life would be very different. It's things like these that make me hold BB dear to me, and it's also what makes me want to stay in this community and keep in touch from time to time.
Now that I'm here, I'd like to know what's going on with current events:
1. How's the BB Community doing? Is it dead? Is it thriving and growing steadily?
2. How are the BB games going? Is there any new BB games that were made recently? Has BBG died? Or is BBG still living on with active clans still in the mix?
3. How is SkyVU doing? Are they still going well? Do they interact with the community here still?
Also, I'd like to talk about a topic that I'm sure you'll all enjoy! It is the topic that talks about our origins, how it all started. I enjoy listening to others talk about how they discovered BB, because I get to learn a lot about the person saying their story. I'm going to go ahead and write down my story, how everything all started for me.
If you don't want to read my story, you can go ahead stop reading here. I apologize for having so many topics on one thread, but I rarely go on here and it's nice to talk and visit once and a while (like visiting a family and old friends during the holidays to catch up). But yeah, I pray that you're all excelling in real life and that you're all working hard to achieve your goals! Happy holidays everyone once again, and I hope for the best for all of you.
Alright so this all started off during my freshman year in my first high school. It was the 2nd semester and it was early 2012, the year when the "world was going to end", the iPhone 5 and the iPad 2 were the latest iDevices out, everyone was playing Temple Run, Skyrim & Black Ops 2 were a big things for video games, and when Linsanity was big in the NBA.
In my high school, the freshman were given brand new iPad 2s. My school district was taking a new step into technology and were testing out to see how efficient iPad 2's would be for education in schools. Luckily, the freshman in my high school were the test subjects
. The upper classmen would despise us and mock us since we were all on our iPads alot. Obviously, we used iPads only for extracurricular stuff like games and social media rather than education (and why I personally believe that technology is ruining this new generation).
So, during the first few weeks of having iPads, the biggest trend that we had was that we played the game called "Draw Something", I'm sure that you're all familiar with this game, where you draw something and the people you play with guess what you just drew. The next game that everyone would play would be a shooter game. One day during my Spanish class, I was casually talking to some friends and I look over my shoulder and I see two of my friends playing a shooter game. I was interested and I went up to both of them and watched them play the game. The game was a third person shooter with 4v4 teams consisted of bears shooting each other. The game was called "Battle Bears Royale" and it looked great, so I decided to download it, but for some reason I didn't try it out during class (my Spanish teacher was out on paternal leave at the time, so we basically were able to do anything we wanted to do).
I had track practice that day, but either I skipped the practice or I didn't go to the gym after practice, either way, I remember skipping one of my routines and went straight home. I arrived home, back from another day at high school, ate dinner and took a shower. Finished my homework, and had some free time before going to sleep. I decided to go ahead and try out the game, and I became addicted. I thought that the characters, weapons, and special abilities were unique, nothing that I've really seen before. The implementation of powerups and shields were very unique as well, these items can turn the tide of a game.
I continued playing the game, and after a week after the BBR trend started, the trend died. The BBR trend was short lived, and a lot of us freshman already deleted the game and moved on to the next trend, which was Temple Run. However, I continued to play the game, I was still hooked. I wasn't alone, and I was aware that a few other guys still played the game. I remember the day when I learned that the trend died, I learned about the gas offers and I showed my friends about it. My friends all already stopped playing the game and called me a nerd (not in a bully way, but by a joking way).
Regardless to everyone not playing the game, I continued to play and with those gas cans that I got from gas offers, I went ahead and got the chainsaw for huggable. One of my first main setups that I had:
*I forgot what special I used
Before I made the decision to press the OpenFeint button, I played BBR with the annoying bearzooka set and this huggable set for around a week and a half to two weeks. During this time period, I came up with my first BBG nickname. One day, during my football class (yes, there was actually a football class) I made a lucky catch, so one of coaches called me "Lucky". Now I don't know how I got the number "88" but I combined Lucky with 88, and my first nickname was "Lucky_88".
After a week or two, I started to believe that I was becoming a pretty good player, and I noticed that there was a green logo in the main menu. I decided to press the button, and see what content would be revealed. Honestly, pressing that button was like going into a whole new world. I first looked at the leaderboards, and saw names like Fluttershyisbestpony, TacticalWarrior, PlayerNegative8, OLIV3RPOW3R on there. Next, I went over to the forums section on OpenFeint and one name that stood out as [The-T] Smoking Weed, cool dude. After a few days of just lurking around, I stumbled upon a thread about a clan recruiting, that clan was: [LS] Last Stand, and after seeing that the leader's name was Apocabeartic I wanted to join. The person creating the thread was [LS] Patrius, I still remember that picture he had with the winter demo skin. If I remember correctly, I was barely unable or able to meet the requirements, but nonetheless I was able to join. At this time, I was only at the high level 10s or the low level 20s. Once I was accepted, Patrius messaged me and told me to join the Battle Bears Forums. So one day on April 2012, I decided to join the forums.
Before I joined the forums, I decided to check the forums out. I was in awe, because I spotted a lot people that were on the OpenFeint leaderboards. Names like Fluttershisbestpony, PlayerNegative8, TacticalWarrior, OLIV3RPOW3R, and all of these other people and all these clans. I thought that the people on the OpenFeint forums were pretty good, but the forums were full of players that were on a whole other level.
When I reached the [LS] Last Stand thread, it was pretty cool, because I learned that my leader Apocabeartic was regarded as a really great Huggable user & my clanmate CookEfrenzy (her name at the time) was a great sniper as well. After this, my BB "career" kicked off. I stuck around OF but started to stay more on the forums, and I got more closer to people like CookEfrenzy, Patrius, & PlayerNegative8.
After that? The rest is history.
